This week’s maritime VHF traffic was led by a boater reporting a child being dragged beside the running outboard motor of a moving fishing vessel near the Maritime Museum. Additional traffic captured a Coast Guard search for a 54-year-old man last seen in the water without a life jacket near Long Beach’s Foxtrot 9 Anchorage and a report of an apparently unoccupied green skiff on the rocks beside ammunition bunkers across from the Point Loma submarine base.

Maritime communications transformed by AI

Maritime VHF Intelligence

VesselAware™ transforms live marine VHF voice communications into real-time, geospatial intelligence. It monitors, records, transcribes, and translates radio traffic alongside AIS and USCG Notice to Mariners — categorizing Maydays, Pan Pan, Sécurité, and Hails as they happen. Spoken locations are detected and displayed on a map with existing AIS data, turning previously isolated voice broadcasts into structured, location-aware information. Whether it's your boat being hailed, a navigational hazard, or a distress call in your proximity, VesselAware™ alerts you as events unfold — delivering a more complete picture of maritime activity across your waters.

Government

VesselAware equips government agencies with structured, geospatial intelligence built from live marine VHF communications. Through its API and ArcGIS integration, radio traffic, AIS, detected locations, and critical maritime events flow directly into the Common Operating Picture — giving watchstanders a more complete, real-time view of activity across their area of responsibility.

Commercial Maritime

VesselAware turns real-time VHF radio traffic into actionable maritime data that integrates with existing operational systems. By combining voice communications, AIS, vessel activity, and geospatial intelligence through its API, VesselAware gives commercial operators unmatched insight into emerging risks — helping businesses improve situational awareness, ensure compliance, and protect vessels, personnel, and assets at sea.

VesselAware Joins the Esri Partner Network

VesselAware™ has joined the Esri Partner Network (EPN), deepening its integration with ArcGIS to better support customers whose Common Operating Picture is built on the Esri platform.
VesselAware transforms live marine VHF voice communications into structured, geospatial intelligence — transcribed and translated radio traffic, detected locations, vessel information, and categorized maritime events, delivered alongside existing AIS and operational data. Through this integration, that intelligence flows directly into ArcGIS, giving watchstanders and decision-makers a richer, more complete Common Operating Picture without leaving the environment they already work in.

VesselAware Awarded $1.2M Direct-to-Phase II SBIR Contract from the Department of Defense

This Phase II award will allow VesselAware to demonstrate its viability aboard U.S. Navy vessels and at shore-based sites. The effort will focus on deploying and testing the system’s ability to process VHF and AIS data in real time, gathering feedback from Navy and shoreside operators, and identifying pathways to integrate VesselAware Cloud into existing Maritime Domain Awareness platforms across the Navy and DoD. VesselAware at Maritime Security West 2025

We had a fantastic week at Marsec West 2025 showcasing how VesselAware uses AI to transform VHF radio into actionable intelligence for maritime security and safety. By transcribing, translating, and analyzing live broadcasts, we detect urgency, extract precise location data, and alert operators faster than traditional channels—bridging a critical gap in maritime domain awareness. The interest from Coast Guard, port security, and industry leaders reinforces the value of real-time VHF intelligence,
